Fall Porch Inspiration

Hello friends! I’ve missed you! Life has been a bit crazy lately….between traveling with my husband’s job and seeing our young adult kids move and settle in Oklahoma (for the time being anyway). Oh, and we also purchased our third fixer-upper property that we’ve turned into an Airbnb. (I will blog about this renovation soon!) It’s been an adventure managing these properties and meeting people from all over the world…but we love it!

Today, I have Fall on my mind. I hope you love Fall as much as I do! I enjoy the cooler temps and seeing the leaves change color. I love apple picking and hay rides. In the Fall, I especially love sitting outside on my porch - with a cup of coffee in hand as I watch the sunrise or sunset.

So, on that note…I thought it would be fun to give you some ideas on decorating your porch or outdoor spaces for Fall. These are all pictures from either my house or one of the three Airbnb properties that I hope will inspire you to create warm and inviting spaces for you and your loved ones to enjoy as the cooler weather approaches.

  1. Cluster Pumpkins and Mums Together

Our Midtown Bungalow Airbnb - Frederick, MD

Layering pumpkins and mums together is a popular way to decorate for Fall but this year I am seeing more and more porches styled with lots of pumpkins and mums clustered closely together. If you have steps (such as these in Our Midtown Bungalow) then you can even decorate the steps with pumpkins and mums of all different colors and sizes which is fun to do.

2. Use Height for Displaying Fall Decor

You can easily add height to your Fall porch display by using a box, chair, large container, etc. to stack decor on. On the front porch at Our Uptown Cottage, I used a metal stool on one side of the door and stacked pumpkins in a container on another to add height to my Fall decor.

3. Add pops of Color with Pillows and a Wreath

Our House - Lisa @cottagestyle

Here is a view of the front porch at our home and you will notice that even though it is small, it can hold plenty of Fall inspiration! I added lots of pumpkins and mums and placed a pillow on a rocking chair to tie the colors together - with a bright wreath, of course!

4. Tuck Greenery Into Fall Decor

If you have followed me for any amount of time, you know that my favorite item for decorating is greenery! The same is true for Fall porch design. Don’t shy away from putting ferns, fall cabbage, etc. in your spaces to add color and texture.

On the porch of Our Downtown RowHouse (our newest Airbnb), I placed a boxwood in a container to add height, texture and color to this space and tucked Fall cabbages in between pumpkins.

Look how cute this boxwood looks in this metal pail with mums and pumpkins stacked.

5. Add Lights!

I believe lights are the frosting on the cake of any decor! If I could, I would add twinkly lights to everything. Because this porch at Our Downtown RowHouse is covered, we could easily hang lights here. If you can add lights, do it! Lights will make your Fall porches stand out and it’s oh, so fun to sit under lights at night. Wouldn’t you agree?
